I talked with the southeast Hoosier rep today and they are sold out of the new 10.5w's. I believe we should not allow their usage at Huntsville, or until everyone has the opportunity to buy them. They obviously have a performance advantage because of the new compound and size. A couple of teams have numerous sets, and they now have a unfair advantage if they really are better. It's only a matter of time for the tire manufactorers to increase the size of the tires to gain a corner on the market. This is a perfect example. We need to put or inforce the 12" or narrower maximum width and put a roll-out maximum. This is the limiting factor that keeps our cars equal and helps control some of the cost.....yea right..! Let your thoughts be known. I rarely speak on these boards and this is not to bash anyone, its really a compliment to the people that do have them and the et's they have run. Thanks for the space.

The Hoosier rep. should give Steve Kirk tires for life! He runs a 4.43 and all of a sudden Hoosier sells out of 10.5W tires. Maybe this was needed to create some competition with the tire companies to bring the price down on the M/T tires.
Way to go Steve! I bet if you said it was due to installing muffler bearings everyone would be looking for them. LOL! |

I wonder why in the past 2 days ORSCA has had more phone calls from tire companies than it has in history. Hoosier twice yesterday Mickey for over an hour on the phone today. Pandora's Box is about to split wide open in 10.5 racing.
In the past everyone knows that ORSCA and its racers played a key role in developing the Good Year 33x10.5 W. One thing we heard from all its racers was we have to make sure they are within the same limits of the mickey 10.5 W. We did that Good Year was good in abiding by those guid lines. If we now allow pandora's box to be open in tires it will be the death of 10.5 racing. We have already saw numerous articles written about the strangness of calling it 10.5 racing and running 11 1/2 inch tires. How long before we have to change the name of 10.5 to 12.5 then 13.5 and so on? We spoke with reps of mickey on exactly how the 10.5 tire is produced. Mr. Karl Robbinson Motor sports division M/T tires knows with one slidding of a spacer in the 10.5 mould Mickey could change the size of the 10.5 tire and start tomorrow making it wider taller or what ever they wanted to. Tire companies will soon become tired of this and will move on to another type of racing . They will not keep bearing the expence of changing from week to week on tire size. I call on all tire companies to abide by the guidlines set fourth in tire sizes. Max tread witdth not to exceed 12 inches. Tire Roll out to be within set standard guidlines. If we allow tire companies to start an all out tire size war on who can make the biggest then we will lose 10.5 racing as we know it. I say put them at war on who can make the best tire and who can lend customer service to its racers and its organizations.
Anything any less than that and ORSCA would not be a part of it. We suggest you as racers let that fact be known and for once put the life and longevity of the sport ahead of your own desires to be a hero at any cost.
We say an outstanding NO to 10.5 tire size wars with tire companies. Play on a fair racing field in 10.5 or go find you another field to play on . We say this to Mickey Thompson to Good Year to Hoosier and any other tire company that wants to jump on board the cash cow of 10.5 racing. We want every tire company to be involved. If we set silent and allow them to burry us in wider taller tire wars then we have no one to blaim but our own ignorance. This in no way states one tire or the other is not within these guidlines. This just states we will make sure anyand all tires are in these guidlines. ORSCA will up hold its mandated tire size in its rules . ORSCA will inforce that mandate at its races. Only you can make the choice if you will be a part of that as racers Thank you Johnny Fenn/ ORSCA

I had a pro-mod racer tell me they should call our class PRO MOD 10.5 in Rockingham this weekend . I guess because Steve was over there running only 3 1/2 tenths slower than most of the promods. Man that hurts because i dont consider these cars in NO shape, form or fashion a promod.
I would like to see the tire rule mandated. This class of racing is already getting out of hand. Manufacture's shouldn't have to get in this battle. Bad part about it, IT AINT BENEFITTED ORSCA with all the tire sales. |

We have a set of the Hoosiers and the roll out is only 103 and the width is within 3/8's inch of the M/T's. I have heard that playing with the air pressure on the Hoosier's will get you a better ET. But this may also be true for the M/T tires. Also the life of the tire is said to be longer and they should last through qualifing and the entire race. Time will tell if this is true.
The one pass we attempted blew the tires away, more testing is needed to see if they really are better.
Maybe people are trying different pressures with the new tires that they did not try with the old ones.
Either way I am sure that the tires are not the only thing that got Kirk into the low 40's, he has been working on the Nitrogen push system for some time now and it seems to have been working for him..
Or maybe he has mastered traction control on a Nitrous motor.
Only Kirk really knows and he ain't talkin' |

| All I can say is THANK YOU Johnny! 10.5 Racing is about the tire size and if we let tire companies start stretching the limits little by little without recourse then eventually the class will be doomed. I get people in my shop all the time, commenting on how amazing it is that we can get these cars to run the numbers they are running on that size tire (and they usually point at a set on a car). It's what defines the class. |

| so i take it from your post orsca that the hoosier tires arent technically legal 10.5 tires if you were to use the old go no go gauge that was used back in the early days and the string of 4.43s probably woouldnt have happened on those good ole mickeys and are you going to allow them to run the hoosiers at your races to get recognized like the adrl series did when kirk went 4.43 not once but twice or will there be a guage to measure tread width |

| J-FENN, you are right about the tire size issue--however , You left the door open for this. The ORSCA rules do not have a maximum measured width or roll out. You only have a max sidewall designation of 10.5 for slick and 13.5 for DOT tire. You and I talked about this extensively 2 years ago and I wanted to limit actual width to 11.25 inches to allow the current tire and to stop the 14 inch " 10.5 " tire. We do not need a bigger or better tire, We need a more affordable tire--- that is what would help the class. You need to decide if we are going to allow this Hoosier or if we will enforce the unwritten rule of 11.5 max width. Personally, it does not matter, I can fit a 36" tall tire on the car and I have enough HP to pull it. But it would sure be detrimental to the guys in the class who can not fit a tire that size and/or don't have the power to utilize it. Not bashing or whining---just discussing. Thanks SHEP. |

I would like to see these 14" wide tires and 36" tall tires. We did all the testing for Hoosier and have been runing them all year. (about 50 sets) and i have never seen a 14" wide or a 36" tall tire all my tires come new under 11.25 and roll out is about 104 these are the size Johnny Fenn said were ok. If you have a set of hoosier that are 14" wide or 36"tall call me my name is Jeff Parker @469-693-7801 |

Posted By Florida outlaw on 09/20/2006 7:54 AM so i take it from your post orsca that the hoosier tires arent technically legal 10.5 tires if you were to use the old go no go gauge that was used back in the early days and the string of 4.43s probably woouldnt have happened on those good ole mickeys and are you going to allow them to run the hoosiers at your races to get recognized like the adrl series did when kirk went 4.43 not once but twice or will there be a guage to measure tread width Well if that is what you take on that post then you are completely wrong . I never said any tire was legal or not legal. As a matter a fact I said in my post that this in no way assumes anything on any one kind of tires . My post was to simply let all know that orsca will not enter into a tire size war with any tire company or any racer. if anyone comes to our racing organization with anything like a new tire they will have to produce publicly the mandated tire size and specs. We here welcome any company to be involved but we all have rules we have to abide by. It seems that orsca's phone seems to ring the most when someone needs something from us and rings the least when ORSCA is working to try and make this type of racing successful.
We are working with all these companies to insure that we are all on level ground . The past 3 days it seems we are getting calls from every point of the industry that is looking for ORSCA to provide all the answers to questions they should already know. We feel ORSCA has set the standards for 10.5 racing around the country. Whether everyone continue to play fair is not ORSCA decission nor is it our responsibility. How you play anywhere other that orsca is out of our control.
We have spoken with all involved and are working out details that Orsca needs to feel comfortable with its decissions

Tire wars can ONLY hurt our style of racing (5.30 class not
included...but "I" plan to run 10.5w's).........because any of the
companies "could" make any size tire they desired but yet and still
slap a 10.5w designation on the sidewall........where will it
end??....Folks buying used tires from John Force just because they have
"10.5 w" on the sides??..........All of the companies involved need to
understand.....THIS is "10.5(w) Racing"!!.....Not Pro Stock, or Pro Mod.
