ALBANY, GA - Outlaw Racing Street Car Association brought its All-Star Points Series to U.S. 19 Dragway, October 20th – October 22nd - The Weekend got off to a great start with testing Friday night. Saturday was a cool morning, but it warmed up quickly. We started off with shakedown runs and everything went very smooth. We went into first round qualifying, the track was a little slick but everyone made it safely down the 1/8 mile. The same can't be said for second round qualifying.
Second round started off great but would not end up that way. Everything went great and then EZ Street came to the line. First off Shane Stack set a new EZ Street record with an outstanding 4.977 at 153.55 mph. (And Then) Spurgeon Adkins in his Purple Mustang left the line and stood it on the back bumper so far that it lifted the back wheels off the ground and started to turn over on its right side. He backed out of the throttle only to have it slam down breaking the shock tower off the frame. (Video coming soon.)
Third Round didn’t start a whole lot better. First up was the 7.00 index class. Chris Little in his Chevy S-10 left the line so hard it snapped the left rear axle off and sent him over top of the center guard rail at the Christmas tree. After a short delay and about 20 volunteers, they where able to pick the truck up and set it back on the ground. Then came the nasty part of the night… the Outlaw 10.5 guys where all running the left lane to try and get the #1 spot. Kenneth Rainwater had already made a stellar pass with a 4.536 @ 164.08. Lance Styck came to the line with his beautiful blue Twin Turbo Mustang. Everything went according to plan at first. The burnout looked great. He left the line very hard with the wheels about 2 feet in the air, then it all went wrong. It looked from our vantage point that he left the groove and it got sideways just before the finish line and turned to the right getting up on two wheels and barrel rolling several times, and crashing against the right side guard rail then bounced back out into the center of the track where it came to rest. Luckily Lance was ok but a very scary crash. After a short delay they finished up the night with Steve Kirk laying down an unbelievable 4.495 @ 167.44 only to have the motor expire at the finish line and spread pistons and debris all over the track.
