class is stepping up the pace and elevating
the ET’s and giving the fans an unbelievable
show.
5.30 Index, ORSCA’s newest addition to the
core classes, produced a 24 car all-run field.
Clarence Cloud out of Vidalia, Georgia
captured the #1 qualifying position with a
5.302 at 133.42 in his 1941 Willys. Second
fell to John Smith with a 5.314 at 131.04,

“Hook Meets OUTLAW”
Favorable weather continued into Sunday with
eliminations beginning shortly after 1:00 p.m.
Temperatures hung in the 94 degree range.
Racers were fortunate to have a light breeze.
Outlaw 10.5
First Round of eliminations put Josh
McClelland, Marcus Birt, Bobby Cole, Rob Hale,
Rome Berry, Ken Rainwater, Scottie Wortham on
the trailer.
Jackie Ward who originally started with the
5.30 Index class debuted her 1964 Malibu in
Outlaw 10.5 at Carolina Dragway. Jackie is the
first female 10.5 driver to run with the ORSCA
and as soon as she gets her set-up down pat,
the guys better look out!. Jackie went out in
the first round of eliminations with
transmission problems.
Second Round put Craig Miller over Tony
Johnson’s blown hemi with a 4.745 at 161.30 to
Johnson’s close but not good enough 4.849 at
157.89.
Mike Hill won over Michael Robinson with a
Hill running a 4.684 at 164.83 to Robinson’s
4.742 at 158.19. Steve Kirk, Jr. won over Jack
Barfield. Kirk went a 4.802 to Barfield’s
5.314 as the Skull team is still struggling
with set-up. Jimmy Blackmon over Terry
Robbins, but get this!!… Identical ETS,
Blackmon with a 4.663 to Robbins 4.663.
Blackmon’s horsepower at the lower end pulled
this round out as he ran a 170.11 to Robbins
165.01.
In the semi-final round Craig Miller put out
Jimmy Blackmon with a 4.783 at 161.00 as
Blackmon had problems. Next up, Mike, the
“Hitman” Hill over the one and only Steve
Kirk, Jr. in a close run. Mike pulled the win
light with a 4.669 at 164.27 to Kirk’s 4.717
at 159.61. Hill’s reaction time of .044 made
the difference as Kirk’s reaction time was a
bit slower off the line with a .065.
Final Round put Mike Hill against Craig
Miller. Miller blew the seal on the water
pump in the run against Blackmon. The crew
worked feverishly in the pits to change it
out. Upon test fire, it blew the pop valve and
they did not have a back up. Bobby Miller
loaned his son, Craig, his Miller Lite beer
can and they engineered a way to plug it up to
make the final round. Rocket Science…you use
what is available if you are a die-hard
Outlaw. It can truly be said that ORSCA has a
“Miller Lite Race Team”. NASCAR… it works for
Outlaws too.
Mike Hill, after a gracious and very
sportsman-like period of waiting for his
competitor to repair his car, takes the win
over Craig Miller with a 4.677 at 161.67 to
Miller’s 4.723 at 157.96. Not too bad a run
for a beer can holding the car together.
Hat’s off to Mike Hill for his win at Carolina
Dragway. The Hill team is definitely on a
winning streak !!
Limited Street
First Round put Jerry Gunter, Jeff Cooner,
David Reese, Kevin Scott, Tony Smith, and Gene
Tilley on the trailer. Carlton Thompson and
Darrin Hoyle were fortunate enough to draw the
bye runs, due to qualifying position.
Second Round sent Bruce Johnson, Eric
Dillard, Keith Szabo and Carlton Thompson
home.
Semi final action put Darrin Hoyle, the
current Limited Street World Champion up
against Terry Woodson out of White, Georgia
and John Iannuzzi against Jason Etheridge.
Hoyle took the win with a 5.066 at 149.18 to
Woodson’s 5.22 at 149.56.
In the final, Darrin Hoyle took the win light
and against John Iannuzzi with a consistent
5.058 at 149.17 to Iannuzzi’s 5.217 at 144.44.
The Champ does it again !! Congratulations on
your win at “The House of Hook!”
EZ Street
After a long hard fight to the semi-final
round, Donnie Key, out of Lexington, Alabama
paired up against Tim Kincaid, Thorn Hill,
Tennessee and Kell Eubanks, Powder Springs,
Georgia landed against Robby Erwin, Lithonia,
Georgia. Key put Kincaid on the trailer with a
5.20 at 146.73 to Kincaid’s 5.25 at 139.10.
Kell Eubanks took the win over Robby Erwin
with a 5.23 at 140.34 to Erwin’s 5.29 at
138.98
In the final, Donnie Key against Kell Eubanks,
both of these cars record holders for the
ORSCA, Donnie Key wins his first ORSCA points
series with a 5.25 at 144.80 over Eubanks
problem pass of 6.464. Don’t count Kell
Eubanks out. He wants the record back.. You
will see improvement in performance beyond
this race.
5.30, 6.00 and 7.00 Index
The winner of 5.30 index was none other than
Kenny Acree, Southern Truck Parts, out of
Newman, Georgia who was runner-up in Atlanta.
Acree put out C.G. Knight, Eatonton, Georgia,
who won the Atlanta race. Acree ran a 5.353 at
119.85 to Knight’s 5.343 at 128. 65. These
guys have become the talk of the 5.30 class
and hard to beat competitors.
6.00 index class pitted Michael Strickland,
Alma, Georgia against Blaine Aldridge out of
Cummings, Georgia. Strickland took the win
with a breakout of 5.977 at 115.50 to
Aldridge’s breakout of 5.966 at 117.42. We
would have to say it was a push at the finish
line and neither driver knew who won until
they picked up their time slip. One thing is
for sure, Michael Strickland is on a roll this
year!
7.00 Index put Quick Vandiver, Eatonton,
Georgia in the final against Al “The Doctor”
Hause, Grayson, Georgia. Hause, unfortunately
staging too deep, and in an attempt to back
out and restage as the tree flipped, pulled
the “big red” off the line, allowing Vandiver
to take the win.
Congratulations to the Index Class winners,
Kenny Acree, Michael Strickland and Quick
Vandiver for an unbelievable final round of
heads-up index racing – OUTLAW STYLE…
