ORSCA Closes Season with World Records

You know the old saying, “It ain’t over till the fat lady sings”. ORSCA heard her squeeze out that closing harmony at Carolina Dragway in Aiken, South Carolina, November 19th through the midst of tire smoke that left fans standing in awe at the performance these Outlaws teams produced with new World Records that will definitely impact the industry beginning in 2007.

Needless to say the “House of Hook” – SHOOK as the thunder rolled - starting in qualifying Saturday, under cool temperatures and beautiful crystal blue skies.

This final event of the season was in fact the Horsepower TV / ORSCA Outlaw Finals. Joe Elmore and Mike Galley with expanded crew were prepared for a hard weekend of racing and brought every form of technology available to place you in the seat and down the track with these awesome Outlaw cars. Joe states that the air date of this event will be in March of 2007.

After three rounds of qualifying final order for all classes fells as follows:

Elimination Sunday

There is one thing that can be said about Carolina Dragway. Jeff Miles and his staff definitely know the secret of track preparation. Cooler temperatures aided the situation as well when ORSCA went into World Final Eliminations Sunday morning.

Outlaw 10.5

Starting at the quarter finals, paired and ready were Tony Johnson vs. Jack Barfield, Jimmy Blackmon vs. Michael Robinson, Steve Kirk, Jr. vs. Kenneth Rainwater, Tim Lynch vs. Mike Hill.   Jack Barfield took the win over Tony Johnson with a 4.591 at 160.38 to Johnson’s problem pass off the line.  Jimmy Blackmon took the win over Michael Robinson with a 4.508 at 167.91 to Robinson’s 4.526 at 160.59.  Kenneth Rainwater took out the # 1 Points Leader, Steve Kirk, Jr. with a 4.562 at 158.58 to Kirk’s 4.488 at 165.03. Kirk’s reaction time off the line was .251 to Rainwater’s .014. A rare happening for Steve Kirk, Jr. Tim Lynch over powered Mike Hill in a side by side run that left the finish line showing a 4.394 at 173.83 (first leg of a new World Record) to Hill’s 4.498 at 161.65.

Semi-final action paired Jack Barfield against Jimmy Blackmon and Kenneth Rainwater against Tim Lynch.  Barfield and Blackmon both had problems at the 60 ft. mark. Blackmon attempted to get back in but swerved on top of the center line creating an automatic disqualification and Jack Barfield on a problem pass took the win. Kenneth Rainwater lost to Tim Lynch as Lynch ran a 4.451 at 172.87 to Rainwater’s 4.552 at 166.56. Just as a notable, Rainwater is hitting every mark off the line. His reaction time on this pass was a .038 to Lynch’s .082.

Finals brought “The Outlaw” himself Jack Barfield and Crew Chief, Randy Conner against the team of Tim Lynch and Steve Petty. When the smoke cleared Tim Lynch had not only won the final, he backed –up and advanced the new World Record with a 4.367 at 172.87 to Barfield’s still excellent 4.498 at 161.65.

Tim Lynch – winner of the Horsepower TV / ORSCA World Finals and the fastest man to ever ride an eighth mile on 10.5 inch tires to date. What ever it is they got, we want to see more!!

Limited Street

At the quarter finals, Darrin Hoyle paired with Shannon Ragsdale, Carlton Thompson with Jason Thomas, Jeff Cooner to run Jerry Gunter and Eric Dillard paired off with Brad Bonnette. Ragsdale took the win over Darrin Hoyle with a 5.062 at 151.71 to Hoyle’s problem pass of 6.244.  Carlton Thompson put Jason Thomas on the trailer with a 4.859 at 159.16 to Thomas’ problem pass of  6.638.  In an huge upset, Jeff Cooner #1 Points leader, lost to Jerry Gunter as Cooner had problems and had to let out with Gunter sailing through the finish line clocking 4.962 at 148.22. Eric Dillard took the win over Brad Bonnette with a 4.791 at 162.67 to Bonnette’s 5.392 at 131.08.

Semi-Finals sent Ragsdale with Thompson and Gunter with Dillard. Thompson took that win with a 4.846 at 158.80 as Ragsdale had to let out. Dillard sent Gunter home with a 4.809 at 161.44 to Gunter’s 5.027 at 149.05. 

Thompson vs. Dillard in the final left the Proline Racing Team with Dillard as pilot taking the win with a 4.859 at 157.45 as Thompson’s spun the tires and his day was over.

EZ Street

Quarter finals brought the 2005 World Champion Shane Stack, back with turbos and the #1 qualifier up against Danny Griffin, Tommy Brewer with a new paint job against Tim Kincaid, Robby Erwin - # 1 Points Leader against William White and Kell Eubanks – a World Record Holder against Paul Maquin. Stack took the win over Griffin with a 5.096 at 150.10 to Griffin’s 5.682 at 125.26.  Kincaid took the win over Brewer with a 5.275 at 140.40 to Brewer’s 5.814 at 94.33.  Erwin put out William White with a 5.117 at 140.71 to White’s 5.607 at 128.37.  Eubanks put Maquin on the road home with a 5.111 at 143.57 to Maquin’s 5.394 at 132.49. 

Semi-Finals put Shane Stack with Tim Kincaid and Robby Erwin with Kell Eubanks.
Stack took the win over Kincaid with a 5.083 at 150.41 to Kincaid’s 8.255 problem run. Eubanks sent the #1 Points Leader home with a 5.093 at 144.15 to Erwin’s 5.267at 138.19.  

Shane Stack vs. Kell Eubanks to the finals. World Champion against World Record Holder. Stack took the win with a 5.182 at 145.75 to Eubanks problem run at the lower end of 6.141 to 109.76. 

Stack you got it back !! Congratulations on taking home the win at the World Finals.

5.30 Index

Semi-Final action pitted Lester Pitts with Roger McConnell and Kenny Acree against John Smith. McConnell and his “Mighty Mouse” took the win as Pitts had a drop in oil pressure and could not make the call. Acree sent Smith to the trailer with a 5.294 on a breakout as Smith took the big RED off the line. 

Final Round Action between Roger McConnell and Kenny Acree put Kenny Acree in the winner’s circle with a 5.309 for Acree as he crossed the finish line first and McConnell had to let out at mid-track. 

Congratulations to Kenny Acree and the Southern Truck Parts crew for their win at the World Finals!

6.00 Index

Semi-finals brought forth Lebron Hill of Southern Truck Parts against Pete Rickerson and Charles Richards against Will Coots, another Southern Truck Parts entry.  Rickerson took the win over Hill with a 6.101 to Hill’s breakout of 5.990. Richards took the win over Coots with a 6.023 to a breakout from Coots of 5.996.  

Finals left Pete Rickerson up against Charles Richards. Pete Rickerson had his work cut out for him at the lower end as he passed Richards in the lights with a 6.061 to Richards 6.119. 

Pete Rickerson the winner of 6.00 Index at the World Finals. Bet he is still smiling, Congratulations!!

7.00 Index

Semi-Final action in the tightest run class ORSCA has placed Clint Wood up against #1 Points Leader and 2005 World Champion, Ricky Pennington.  Pennington took that win with a 7.014 to Wood’s 7.023.  Chris Sloan landed against Ed Bendall in the PTC family wagon.  Bendall sent Sloan packing with a 7.015 to Sloan’s 7.047. It had to be dead close at the finish line. 

Finals left Ricky Pennington against Ed Bendall. Bendall ran a perfect 7.005 at the finish line against the champs 7.047 to take the win at the World Finals. 

It’s a two fold win for this class as Ed Bendall takes home the big bucks and the trophy and Ricky Pennington is the first ever ORSCA racer to repeat carry the World Champion banner for a second consecutive year!!

Congratulations to you both. No losers here, only winners!
