Farmington Dragway  -  Farmington, North Carolina

June 10-11, 2006

ORSCA at “The Farm”

Eliminations before the rains and the TORNADO came Sunday at Farmington Dragway, produced some  heated side-by-side runs and ETs.  Here are a few highlights…

7.00 Index

In the second round of eliminations Jason Cagle ran a 7.009 against Terry McLendon with a 7.030. Cagle ending up loosing that round with the better ET. Cagle must have snoozed on the line. Catch up won’t work when you sleep late in the index classes.  In the third round, Chris Sloan ran a 7.005 to beat the number “1” qualifier, Tony Murphy, who ran a 7.042.  Semi final round found  Sloan up against Becky “the better half” McFadden. When women start making it to the semi-finals, you guys better lookout!! Becky did lose to Chris Sloan, but not without a fight.  Sloan pulled the win light with a 7.012 to Becky’s 7.186.

On the other side of the ladder, Chris Smart is on a roll !  Smart ran a 7.008 against Jerry Cline’s 7.039 in the third round putting his team in the finals.  In the semi-final, Smart took on Andy Schaefer. That had to be a hard run as Smart pulled a perfect 7.000 and forced a top end break out from Schaefer with a 6.98.

Final run in Atlanta will be Chris Smart and Chris Sloan. They have a month to prepare. A lot can happen in that length of time.

6.00 Index

In the third round of eliminations, Glenn Dutton found him self up against Mike Ellisor. Dutton ran the number with a 6.005 but lost the round to Ellisor who pulled the win light with a 6.187 and advanced to the semi final against Denardo Barron.  Ellisor put Barron on the trailer with a 6.040 to Barron’s breakout of 5.928 and will be in the final that will be run in Atlanta.

On the other side of the ladder, Jody Volyes ran a 6.005 against Scott Overy in the second round.  Overy put Voyles on the road back home with a 6.067. In the third round Overy paired with Eric Armstrong. Overy lost the run to Armstrong but ran the number with a 6.001, sending Armstrong to the semi final against  Jason Richards.  Armstrong pushed a little too hard in this round as he broke out with a 5.999 as Richards sailed through for the win with a 6.042.

Final in Atlanta will be Jason Richards against Mike Ellisor.

5.30 Index

In the second round, Lizon Walker in “Ms Pearl” ran a close index of 5.318 against Steve Robinson. Walker lost the round to Robinson who ran a 5.362, an extremely close race at the finish line. Robinson then advanced to the semi final against C.G. The final will be Lester Pitts out of Hope Hull, Alabama against C.G. Knight – Edenton, Georgia. Something to look forward to at Atlanta Dragway. This will be one heck of a drag race !

EZ Street

Brewer pulled the win with a 5.367 to Lamm’s 5.555 which advanced Brewer to the semis.  Kevin Dalton landed against Robby Erwin, who won in Albany.  Dalton crossed the centerline in an automatic DQ and sent Erwin on to the semi.  In the semi, Tommy Brewer against Robby Erwin, Erwin pulled the win light with a 5.450 to Brewer’s 5.367, which lands him in the final.

Outlaw 10.5

Hill’s 4.751 to Cole’s 4.752 ought to tell you Mike Hill knows his stuff.  Hill advances to the final.

Other side of the ladder, Lance Styck against Craig Miller and Jimmy Blackmon against Steve Kirk.  The Miller Team takes the win with a 4.760 to Styck’s 4.82 as Kirk takes the win over Blackmon with a 4.70 to Blackmon’s close 4.73.  This puts Craig Miller against Steve Kirk in the semi.  Get this….. at the finish line, Kirk pulls the win over Miller with a 4.701 to Miller’s 4.700. Heads-up drag racing OUTLAW style…nothing like it.!

The final in Commerce… Mike “The Hitman” Hill vs. Steve Kirk, Jr. of the newly formed Kirk/Ferguson Motorsports team.
