Team Mobley is definitely proving that despite the long hauls they are making to the south they are definitely making their presence known. For the third straight race one of mountain motor cars from that camp made it to the finals. After finishing runner up to Mike Hill at the last race in Commerce, Chuck Ulsch hit the jackpot in Montgomery by taking out Todd Moyer who caught some tire shake after cutting a telepathic 05 light. Chuck wasn't to far behind as he had a .039 light. But just past the Xmas tree Moyer starting hazing the tires as Chuck went by with a 4.747 at 160.74 to Moyers valiant recovery attempt 4.936 at 157.09. Todd was making his second final of the season also. There were more upsets in the first round than any race ever for an ORSCA organization race. Previous 2007 winners Richard Sexton and Mike Hill were gone by the end of the first round. Team Mobley dominated qualifying by landing the top three spots. By Sunday though, only Ulsch made it out of the first round. Ken Rainwater and Jimmy Blackman both made it to the semis.

Limited Street just like the other classes turned into a drivers race. With the temp hovering around the low to mid 90's all weekend, tire shake was almost inevitable. Carlton Thompson navigated the tricky track the best on Fathers Day as he took out points leader Darrin Hoyle with a 5.199 at 146.91 to Hoyles mid track tire shake pass 5.484 at 125.92. Keith Szabo and Eric Dillard reached the semis finals after qualifying 2nd and 8th , respectively.

For a minute there, it looked like Dustin Mewbourn was going to keep all the Modified Street trophies to himself. After winning the first two races Dustin looked like he was heading to his third straight finals but Ryan Rakestraw had other ideas. Ryan took Dustin out in a close 5.708 at 124.82 to a losing 5.717 at 124.42 battle. Waiting for Mr. Rakestraw in the finals was Richard Reagan who used a hole shot to beat Ala Belford in the semis. In the finals, the pair left together with Reagan slightly pulling away on the big end for a 5.663 at 127.33 to Ryan’s losing 5.700 at 125.64. Spurgeon Adkins was your number one qualifier at 5.540.

The closest racing of the weekend took place in the Heads Up Index Classes. Starting with the 5.30 Class, Bick Bickerstaff lead the class with a perfect 5.300 which earned him a first round bye. He was then taken out by Alex Thomas. The finals came down to John Smith from Jackson,Ga who repainted his car over the off season and Tim Jones from Oxford, Al. Tim red lighted by the slightest of margins with a -.001 to give the win to John as they both legged it thru 5.318 at 129.38 to a losing 5.310 at 133.90.

Big Blaine Aldridge took the winners circle in Outlaw 6.0. After starting from the sixteenth position he reached the finals were Derek Sanford was waiting for him. Derek’s Trans Am threw a .037 light at Blaine ,but it wasn't enough as the burgundy Buick swung back with a .021 light of his own. Sanford’s 6.025 at 16.29 wasn’t enough to hold off Big Blaine’s 6.012 at 113.13. Outlaw 6.0 Class heavy hitter Jody Voyles sat on top of the qualifying ladder with a 6.005 and went two rounds were he fouled out to eventual winner Blaine Aldridge. Bill Cowles and Buddy Bagget were your semifinalist .

Outlaw 7.0 as usual had the most competitors. Jared Pennington went three rounds after qualifying number 1. In the finals Bobby Davis from Troy,AL took out Chris Smart from Dutlon,AL who broke out with a 6.947 trying to catch Bobby’s holeshot aided 7.015. Jarred Mackey and Ken Bucker were your semi finalists.
Thanks to all who came out this Father’s Day weekend. Next race Commerce July 6th-8th
