BREAKING NEWS: "OUTLAW JACK" ADOPTS A WORLD CHAMP

It’s a done deal. Jack Barfield, one of the pioneers of Outlaw Racing, and the SKULL team already have a solid racing program. Not only does this team have two of the most beautiful Outlaw 10.5 Camaros on the ORSCA circuit, they recently added an additional Camaro of special sentimental value to the Barfield camp. The rumor is TRUE!

In a private interview with Jack Barfield shortly after the deal was consummated, Jack explains the sequence of events that led to the 2002 ORSCA World Championship Camaro, previously owned by the 2005 World Champion, Terry Robbins, being added to Jack’s collection of awesome race cars…

“I have always admired Terry Robbins and his Camaro and its ability to perform in an outstanding manner. I have watched it leave the line many times and shook my head and even told Terry, that the car is deadly consistent. Terry would have to agree.” as Jack continues. “Ferrell Robbins approached me in Atlanta at the recent ORSCA points race and said,” Jack do you want a good Outlaw car?” “I said surely, you are not thinking of selling a Champion. Ferrell’s answer was YES, we are.” Jack states, “I felt my pockets beginning to get light as I knew by looking at Ferrell that he was dead serious. How can you pass up that kind of opportunity? To have a World Champion car in your collection, passed as an heirloom through the family of ORSCA.” “My answer to Ferrell was, I would love to take the car if there is anyway possible.” It was possible… and now a part of the Jack Barfield/Marcus Birt SKULL race team.

Of course Ferrell Robbins has never been short on words and it is truly a joy to entertain an interview with him. When asked what the plans of the Robbins family were and why they felt the need to pass the car onto Jack Barfield, the following reply was received, “Our family business at Robbins Repairables has grown to the point over the last 10 years where we can’t properly handle it and leave it to go race.” “You can’t just give up your business for the races, the wear and tear over time gets rough.” We realize this car is special, and has treated Terry and myself very well. It is a world champion car and the only considerations of the next owner would fall with the other drivers within the ORSCA organization that our family considers to be long running champions. Those people would be the pioneers of this sport, Jack Barfield, Craig Miller, Mike Hill and the likes. The guys we started racing with in the beginning. I remember 10 years ago when we met Mike Hill at Brainerd. He had the biggest motor in a street car I had ever seen. The more he tinkered with it, the more curious I became and the next thing I knew the Robbins Family were involved in Outlaw racing. We outlaws have been around, they just didn’t call us that back then.” “We put out feelers about what we were thinking about doing. As soon as I talked to Jack, he immediately stepped up to the plate. Mike just got a new car and Craig…He is running better than he ever has.” Mr. Robbins continues, “ORSCA is the best thing that could happen to Outlaw Racing, Terry, Shawn and I have had the time of our lives running Outlaw with this organization. We consider this group of people our family. We are leaving now as a World Champion, our goal has been met. Problem is, our team motivation has just become lower because of all the things going on with our business and Terry would be the first to admit, he has lost his focus on racing this year, because of that. When you lose your focus, its time to take a break, cause you are not giving it all you got.” Spoken like a true Champion.

Jack states with a smile, “Of course the new World Champion Camaro will be painted yellow to coordinate with the team’s colors. We have taken the motor out of the ’69 Year One camaro and sold it to Darrin Hoyle for his Limited Street car and are awaiting a brand new, custom built Gene Fulton motor that will be 900 CI of Nitrous”…. And YES….the correct number is 900 CI. Jack continues, “Although I am excited about the new car and a new protégé outlaw motor for the ’69 Year One Camaro, ORSCA has lost a great racing team. We will definitely notice that the Robbins family is not here with us, but we will also do our best to keep the World Champion car a World Champion. I do expect to see Terry and Ferrell attending an event, even as spectators cause we all know that when this gets in your blood…you never totally leave.”

Jack Barfield and Randy Connor have some awesome plans in their future for the advancement of Outlaw Racing. This has become a rocket science of sorts when you can get a 900 CI motor in a street car. That is why they call him “Outlaw Jack”. He never conforms to the norm, always striving for more….But… he motivates with a smile.

ORSCA wishes the Robbins family success in their future endeavors and you will truly be missed when the action rolls to the line.

A special thanks to Jack Barfield for saving a champion.
